There are cultural variances in the ways that people define age. This Age calculator is based on the most widely used age system. A person’s age is increased using this way on their birthday. For example, a person is three years old if they have lived for three years and eleven months. They will turn four years old on their birthday in one month. Most Western nations employ this age system.

Some cultures describe age by a year-counting system that may or may not include the current year. Two people who are twenty and twenty-first years old, for example, are of the same age. In one of the traditional Chinese age systems, an individual’s age is one year from the date of birth, and on the Traditional Chinese New Year, rather than their birthday, their age is increased. For example, a baby born just one day before the Traditional Chinese New Year will turn two days later, therefore even though the baby is only two days old, it will be two years old.
The months and days that this age calculator gives may not always make sense when the starting date is the end of a month. As an example, we count February 20 as one month. There are two ways to calculate the age between February 28, 2022, and March 31, 2022. If the days from February 28 to March 28 are counted as one month, the result is one month and three days.
If we consider both February 28 and March 31 to be the end of the month, the result is one month. The results of the two computations make sense. Similar conditions apply to days like April 30 to May 31, May 30 to June 30, and so on. The misperception stems from the different numbers of days in each month.
